1 Badminton Will Survive the Olympic "Berth"

Rumors said that badminton will not discontinue its inception to the summer olympic games in the future. An official from Indonesian badminton governing body was said to inform that this racquet sport is not going to show up at he 2020 Olympic Games. Is that true or simply a 'lip service' behind particular sentiment?

BIG CROWDS AT MALAYSIA OPEN 2012

It will be hardly believed that badminton is no longer expected by the world's greatest quadrennial sport events. Indeed, badminton has been continuing to grow by an outreach across five continents. From the economic perspective, the sport has also given more promises to the players by offering more money prizes. For example, a BWF Superseries edition provides $ 1 million for the winners of every of the five divisions competed. The presentation of the game is more interesting, comparable with the other racquet game, such as tennis.

From the political aspect, badminton is quite strong because it is very popular in countries where people are enthusiastic, such as Indonesia, China, India, Korea and Malaysia in Asia, and England, Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands in Europe. Even in the United States, which has powerful and influential capability in global political issues, also plays badminton.

If the reason, according to the local official mentioned above, is lacking popularity, he should have taken a look at the current development. In Africa, which is probably he referred to, is now a more developing continent in badminton. In the 2011 season, Africa hosted six tournaments in BWF official schedules. This year, likely due to somewhat busier schedules such as Thomas and Uber Cup preliminary round and finals as well as London Olympic Games, African nations still have a momentum to play the international events in Uganda (February, International Series) and Egypt (March, Future Series).

BADMINTON IS MORE ENTERTAINING RIGHT NOW

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) must have a fundamental reason to drop badminton from its olympic events. The organisation will need to take an indepth approach to have a belief that badminton has enough strength to be competitive. This sport has many supporters because the countries with large number of population like it. Let us consider the economic gain. It is likely no taking a genius to know which sports that must be expendable, if any, for more quality and interesting display of the olympics The IOC will sacrifice lots of fortunes should the badminton event be dismissed.

Notwithstanding the controversy with ot without the olympic in the future life, badminton fans should never run out belief to support this sport. Badminton will continue to grow bigger and bigger because the sport offers interesting shows. It is where speed, power, agility and strength collide. It is the sport that always teaches anyone a quick decision-making in seconds, perfect response to a critical situation. More importantly, badminton is safer for the athletes who play it because they, technically, do not need to have body contacts with opponents. So how can everybody who favors badminton be alerted and anxious with the future only because it is not popular to the IOC officials? If they require safety sport, badminton will surely have a better answer, even than shooting, archery, or gymnastics, not to mention boxing, football/soccer, and basketball.
