0 Pertama di Olimpiade Munich 1972

Secara resmi bulutangkis diterima oleh IOC sebagai cabang olahraga yang diperlombakan dalam olimpiade adalah pada Olimpiade Musim Panas Barcelona 1992. Pertama kali diselenggarakan, bulutangkis menyediakan 4 (empat) medali emas. Seperti kita ketahui bahwa Susi Susanti dan Alan Budikusuma menjadi manusia bersejarah pada nomor tunggal putri dan tunggal putra, dengan menjadi orang-orang pertama yang menjadi juara olimpiade. Sedangkan dua gelar lainnya direbut oleh Park Joo-bong/Kim Moon-soo (ganda putra) dan Hwang hye-young/Chung Soo-young (ganda putri).

Akan tetapi, kemunculan bulutangkis dalam olimpiade telah dirintis pada tahun 1972. Dalam Olimpiade Munich tersebut IBF (yang sekarang berubah nama menjadi BWF) telah mengajukan usulan kepada IOC untuk mencantumkan bulutangkis sebagai olahraga resmi. 0 University Badminton

University Badminton adalah langkah yang ditempuh oleh Badminton World Federation (BWF) guna menggalakkan peran serta masyarakat pendidikan tinggi di dalam kegiatan bulutangkis. University Badminton terlaksana berkat kerjasama antara BWF dan International University Sports Federation (FISU). Tujuannya ialah membangun strategi untuk memantapkan pemahaman dan pemikiran tentang bulutangkis pada akademisi perguruan tinggi.

Pada acara Badminton World University Championships yang berlangsung di Taiwan, 7-12 September 2010, BWF mengadakan pertemuan dengan perwakilan dari FISU untuk menghimpun masukan dan pendapat tentang cara memasyarakatkan bulutangkis ke dalam lingkungan perguruan tinggi di seluruh dunia.
